Squirrel Distribution
Squirrels may be the most abundant and troublesome type of wildlife nuisance. Species commonly found in our area include the Eastern Gray Squirrel, and the Northern and Southern Flying Squirrels.
Symptoms
The most common sign of a squirrel infestation is noises in the walls or attic. Sounds heard may include scratching or gnawing on wood, or something scurrying above you. You may find large caches of nuts, acorns, or pine cones, or a hole in your dwelling that was not there before.
Damages and Concerns
Squirrels might be considered the most troublesome nuisance animal solely by the about of damage they can cause in your home. Searching for shelter, these animals may invade your home by gnawing and boring a hole through a fascia board or soffit area on the exterior of your house. Once inside, serious concerns can include furniture damage, damage and shredding to household materials to be used as bedding, and most extremely, electrical shortages or fires caused by chewing on electrical wires.
